MAMBO AT U.S. SUMMERFEST 2012
Add the number of followers on Warnie’s Twitter account to the number of ‘petrol heads’ who have attended the Bathurst 1000 over the past ten years and then multiply that by the total world wide viewing audience for the Queen’s recent Diamond Jubilee celebrations and that will give you around half the number of fans expected to attend this year’s SUMMERFEST in the US city of Milwaukee.
SUMMERFEST is the world’s largest music festival, regularly attracting over 700 bands. This summer feature acts will include, Descendents, Primus, Snoop Dogg, Tontons, Flaming Lips, and Willie Nelson. And MAMBO has been invited to increase the number of acts appearing on-stage.
This year Mambo, along with our US partners, Boston Stores has teamed up with Summerfest to launch, LAND THE BIG GIG, a search to find the planet’s next big musical talent. Forty five bands/performers have already been selected from the thousands of performance videos submitted. That number will be knocked down – by public vote, to 3 by the time the festival kicks off, June 27. These 3 bands will win a trip to Milwaukee to perform in front of fans and a panel of celebrity judges on Wed, July 4. The winning act will pocket $25,000 and more exposure than a pair of leather pants with a busted zip.
Summerfest – this year celebrating its 45th anniversary, takes place June 27 – July 8 so it’s not too late to buy a ticket and a jumbo size box of NoDoze, and join Australian actor and U.S. Mambassador, Ryan Kwanten plus those Mambo crew with holidays still owing, in Milwaukee for 10 days of epic musical entertainment.
MAMBO has a long history of supporting emerging bands and sponsoring live music, including Battle Of The Surf Bands, Big Day Out and more recently, GOOD VIBRATIONS. Summerfest/LAND THE BIG GIG is just another chapter in that story.
